Undoubtedly, Concepcion is the most important city of the region, the second in population after Santiago, and capital of the VIII region.
It is also home to the second oldest armored battleship in the world, the Huascar. This was an ironclad vessel that played an important role during the War of the Pacific between Chile and Peru. It was captured by the Chilean navy in 1879.
Continue your visit of Concepcion with a stop at Hualpen Park & Museum. Afterwards, drive to Ecuador Park filled with varied endemic vegetation. It is home to the Museum Gallery of History.
A visit of Concepcion would not be complete without its university. Here one of the most important features is its pinacotheca, or Art Gallery. It houses one of the largest and most prestigious painting collections made by Chilean artists.
